Punjab Food Authority Launches First-Ever School Nutrition Program to Improve Children’s Health
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken a groundbreaking step in promoting child health and well-being by launching its first-ever School Nutrition Program in Lahore. This initiative aims to improve the dietary habits of young children and ensure they receive the right nutrition for healthy growth.
What the Program Offers
In the first phase, the project will be implemented in 40 schools across different districts of Lahore, targeting students from grades one to five. Each child will receive a specially prepared nutritious lunchbox containing:
-
Rice
-
Fresh vegetables
-
Pulses (daal)
-
Other healthy food items designed to meet children’s nutritional needs
This program is expected to not only fight malnutrition but also encourage better eating habits from an early age.
Funded by the Punjab Food Authority Team
One of the most inspiring aspects of this initiative is its self-funded model. Instead of relying on government funds, the PFA team itself is financing the project:
-
The Director General of PFA will donate three months’ salary
-
PFA officers will contribute two months’ salary
-
PFA staff members will donate one month’s salary
This voluntary contribution highlights the commitment of PFA employees towards building a healthier future for Pakistan’s children.
Partnership with NGOs & Health Monitoring
To ensure long-term success, the PFA will collaborate with leading NGOs. Additionally, a comprehensive health assessment will be conducted every three months, including checks for:
-
Physical growth
-
Vision health
-
Overall well-being
This ensures the program not only provides food but also measures real impact on children’s health.
Why This Matters for Pakistan’s Future
Malnutrition remains a serious issue in Pakistan, especially among young children. The launch of the School Nutrition Program is a positive step toward building a healthier generation and setting an example for other provinces to follow.
By providing balanced meals and regular health assessments, the Punjab Food Authority is addressing both immediate hunger needs and long-term health outcomes.
