The Government of Punjab, School Education Department (SED), has issued an official notification regarding the implementation of a standardized professional dress code for all teachers working in public sector schools across Punjab.
According to the notification dated 19th February 2026, all Chief Executive Officers (DEAs) have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the prescribed dress code with effect from 23rd February 2026.
Key Highlights of the Notification:
A standardized professional dress code will be implemented across all public schools in Punjab.
All teachers are required to wear a black gown during school hours while performing academic duties.
The gown symbolizes academic dignity, professionalism, discipline, and equality.
The prescribed dress code applies to all teaching staff irrespective of gender, cadre, or geographical location.
Male Teachers – Recommended Dress:

Shalwar Kameez in plain and sober colors

Pant and shirt

Closed shoes or sandals with straps
Female Teachers – Recommended Dress:

Suitable dress that reflects dignity and modesty

Closed shoes or modest sandals
Heads of institutions will be responsible for ensuring day-to-day compliance, while DEAs will monitor implementation at district and school levels.
The matter has been declared “Most Important” and is to be implemented in letter and spirit.
