The School Education Department, Government of the Punjab, has issued a top-priority directive dated 22nd January 2026 regarding the strict implementation of Section 7A (10) of the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion & Regulation) Ordinance, 1984.
According to this provision, no private educational institution is allowed to compel parents to purchase textbooks, uniforms, or any other material from a specific shop or vendor. However, it has been observed that certain private schools are violating this rule by enforcing such practices.
The competent authority has taken serious notice of these violations. All Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities across Punjab are hereby directed to:
-
Ensure strict implementation of the above-mentioned legal provision in letter and spirit.
-
Disseminate these directions to all principals and heads of private institutions working under their administrative jurisdiction.
-
Ensure full compliance and take necessary action against violations, while keeping this department informed.
This initiative aims to protect parents from unnecessary financial burden and ensure transparency and fairness within the private education sector of Punjab.
