PM Shehbaz Sharif Announces 100,000 Free Laptops for High-Achieving Students Across Pakistan
Islamabad – In a major boost for digital education, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the distribution of 100,000 free laptops to deserving and high-achieving students nationwide. The initiative aims to empower Pakistan’s youth through technology, with selection based purely on merit to ensure fairness and transparency.
Speaking at an event marking International Youth Day, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed his government’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence and equipping the country’s future leaders with the tools they need to succeed in the modern world. The laptop scheme will cover students from all four provinces, as well as Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, praising the nation’s resilience and victory on May 10 against a larger and “arrogant” adversary. He urged Pakistan’s youth to channel this renewed national spirit into their education, careers, and contributions to the country’s progress.
Reiterating his belief that education and technology are key drivers of national development, PM Shehbaz stated:
“The nation’s future rests in the hands of its youth — we must invest in them today for a brighter tomorrow.”
Rana Mashhood Khan, Chairman of the PM Youth Programme, recalled that Pakistan’s first youth policy was introduced in 2011 under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership as Punjab’s Chief Minister. That policy included laptops, scholarships, and soft loans, which have since expanded through the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund to benefit students nationwide.
This announcement comes shortly after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the next phase of the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, which has already supported 80,000 students in 67 diverse fields. The CM encouraged students to apply online and pursue their goals with dedication.
With this dual focus on scholarships and technology, the government aims to bridge the digital divide, enhance access to higher education, and prepare young Pakistanis for the challenges of a competitive global economy.
📌 Applications for the laptop scheme and Honhaar Scholarships are now open. Students are encouraged to visit the official portals, apply before the deadlines, and make the most of these golden opportunities.
